Deal, Making a Big Deal and To Deal

DEAL, MAKING A BIG DEAL AND TO DEAL

DEAL: A deal is an agreement between two parts, formal or informal, it is also a bargain or a promotion, it’s a word used in business referring to a contract.
To use the word DEAL on informal English it refers to a plan or idea, it can also be used to refer to an excuse or a problem.

Let’s see the examples for this word in different scenarios:

-        My mom and her boss made a DEAL, my mom can have Friday off, if she works on Saturday.
-        The DEAL with my brother is: he can use my bicycle if I can use his Xbox
-        This sweater was only $10, I found this great DEAL in the clearance section of the store.
-        The company got a new DEAL, we have a new client that wants 1000 units every week.

NOTE: COMPANIES CLOSE DEALS (CIERRAN NEGOCIOS)

-        I CLOSED 5 DEALS TODAY, I AM GONNA GET A BIG COMMISSION!

Daily English:
-        Dude what is your DEAL? You said you can come to the party and now you are saying you can’t!
-        My sister wants to be vegan, but she keeps drinking milk and eating cheese, I don’t know what her DEAL is.
-        My biggest DEAL is I have to pay for my car and rent, so I won’t have enough money for the trip
When someone makes a big problem out of a small situation (TO MAKE A BIG DEAL (hacer una tormenta en un vaso de agua). It is normally used along the words SMALL, BIG, HUGE (depending on the size of the problem or issue).
-        I am sorry to be late but why are you MAKING SUCH A BIG DEAL? I tried to be here early and there was traffic, stop giving me a hard time!
-        My mom is MAKING A BIG DEAL because I don’t want to spend Christmas at home this year
-        Claire made a HUGE DEAL because her husband forgot their anniversary

It isn’t always a negative thing, when people think you shouldn’t worry about something they will let you know by saying:

-        I am sorry about yesterday Bob, I should had called you! – Don’t worry, it’s not a BIG DEAL!

NOTE: AN ABBREVIATION FOR IT WOULD BE “NO BIGGIE” (MEANS IT’S NOT A BIG DEAL)

TO DEAL:

Dealing with someone means to manage or to handle a person or a situation, it means to carry, be on charge of something. It also means to work shuffling decks of cards (a poker dealer in Las Vegas).

-        I don’t understand why you have to DEAL with problems that aren’t yours!
-        My job is to DEAL with all the last minute bookings.
-        DEALING with teenagers isn’t an easy job!
-        If I get sick you will have to DEAL with me and take me to the doctor.
-        I don’t want to DEAL with your bad attitude anymore, we should break up!

Welcome to Daily English Vibes!

My Name is Yicel, I am a proud Colombian that has been traveling around for the last 5 years, I work remotely in digital advertising, my job allows me the freedom to enjoy the outdoors, engage in different activities and pretty much have a happy and awesome life.  During my journey and the time I've spent in the US I have improved my English skills, and I have learnt a lot about American Culture, overall Californian culture.  At this point of my life I feel like I can share some of the knowledge and fun stuff I've come across, I plan on keeping things simple, I don't have a specific goal by doing this, I just want to make it enjoyable for those who read me and watch my videos, of course I want to be part of a learning process that takes time and love and became one of my biggest passions during my teenager years: ENGLISH!
