TO HOPE, TO
EXPECT AND TO WAIT, They all mean: ESPERAR
Let’s see the meaning and use for each:
TO HOPE is
basically when you want something to happen or you have a desire,
like when someone is sick and you want or wish for that person to get better.
-
I HOPE it
won’t rain on Saturday, it would ruin the concert
-
The team HOPE
they will win the championship
-
Don’t lose HOPE, things will get better!
TO EXPECT is to anticipate or
to be waiting for someone to arrive (like a baby), it can also mean to believe
something.
-
Great news, Jim and Kendra are EXPECTING a baby boy in July!
-
The weather forecast says that we should EXPECT rain in the next couple days
-
My dad EXPECTS
me to get the best grades of my class during college
-
Dollar price is EXPECTED to drop in the upcoming months
-
Why are you waiting by the door? Are you EXPECTING someone?
-
We are sorry, we showed up without
being invited, we know you weren’t EXPECTING
us.
-
Stockholders EXPECT the revenues for
next year to increase significantly.
-
Don’t EXPECT
me to be back on time, there was an accident on the road, go ahead and have dinner without me.
TO WAIT this is the easiest one and it
has to do mostly with precious time, it is
also to work as a waiter or waitress.
-
Lisa is proud of her new job, she will WAIT tables at the new restaurant starting next week!
-
Why do we always have to WAIT for my sister to be ready? God she takes forever in the
shower!
-
They WAITED
until it stopped raining and then they resumed the game.
Let’s see how we can use the 3 of them:
Jim and Kendra WAITED
patiently at the doctor’s office, they had been HOPING to get pregnant for the last 2 years, when the doctor came
back with the results of her blood test they got great news! They are finally EXPECTING a baby!
