Thank God, Spread and Cooties

Today’s video is about a common mistake in English, a verb that can be used in different contexts and an informal word or slang.

First of all I want to advice my friends about something:
Do not be ashamed of speaking English! And don’t be ashamed of correcting someone if you know they are making a mistake! Having said so, here we go with the common mistake:

People often say: THANKS GOD: WRONG!!!

The right way is simply THANK GOD, THANK THE LORD, and THANK GOKU (yes I do love dragon ball).

- Thank God I didn’t miss my flight
 - Thank the lord the disaster wasn’t any bigger
- Thank Goku the galaxy didn’t disappear

Why is this that we don’t need the S? Merely because the person (singular) is not there to thank them personally.

When do we use the S?

-Mom: I made you breakfast.
-Me: Thanks Mom!

-Boss: You can take Friday off.
- Me: Thanks boss!

NOW, DO ME A FAVOR AND SPREAD THE WORD IF YOU SEE ANYONE SAYING THANKS GOD!

The verb SPREAD means to pass something on or to extend (something on a surface), what can you can spread?

- SPREAD INFORMATION

- SPREAD LOVE, NOT HATE!

- SPREAD THE VOICE - SPREAD AN ILLNESS

- SPREAD YOUR COOTIES / GERMS

- SPREAD BUTTER ON BREAD

Finally the word COOTIES, it is a SLANG word, it can be used to refer to LICE OR GERMS... BUT WHAT IS LICE? Lice are those little disgusting parasites that live get SPREAD on kid’s heads/ hair during school.

- SCENARIO: Someone sneezes next to your food - You tell that person: EWWW I DON’T WANT YOUR COOTIES ON MY FOOD!

- Someone is sick in your family: STAY AWAY FROM ME, I DON’T WANT YOUR COOTIES ANYWHERE NEAR ME!

Welcome to Daily English Vibes!

My Name is Yicel, I am a proud Colombian that has been traveling around for the last 5 years, I work remotely in digital advertising, my job allows me the freedom to enjoy the outdoors, engage in different activities and pretty much have a happy and awesome life.  During my journey and the time I've spent in the US I have improved my English skills, and I have learnt a lot about American Culture, overall Californian culture.  At this point of my life I feel like I can share some of the knowledge and fun stuff I've come across, I plan on keeping things simple, I don't have a specific goal by doing this, I just want to make it enjoyable for those who read me and watch my videos, of course I want to be part of a learning process that takes time and love and became one of my biggest passions during my teenager years: ENGLISH!
